Nature and people, together

Nature and people, together

We care about people and the planet. When you work in a place as beautiful as Tahko Mountain, it comes naturally. We use electricity from renewable energy sources and are committed to reducing the use of fossil fuels. Our electricity consumption is carbon neutral.

We also employ local people and support local services and suppliers whenever we can. And we want everyone to enjoy the mountain year-round — visitors and locals alike. Children from Nilsiä receive discounted season passes and ski school lessons, giving them the chance to enjoy the outdoors from an early age.

Sustainable Travel Finland

In autumn 2021, Tahko Mountain was awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label in recognition of our long-term commitment to sustainable tourism. The Sustainable Travel Finland program was created to strengthen responsible tourism practices across the country. Its seven-step development path — and the certification earned at the end — represent an ongoing model of improvement that local businesses commit to together.

Tahko took its first step on this journey in February 2020, when we decided to join the Sustainable Travel Finland program created by Visit Finland. We achieved the Sustainable Travel Finland destination label in May 2023.

Saving natural resources

As part of the EcoCompass program, we are committed to conserving natural resources. Completing the EcoCompass environmental certification is one of the steps within the Sustainable Travel Finland program. We completed our first audit in May 2021 and were awarded the EcoCompass certificate. Our follow-up audit was successfully completed in May 2024.

We continue to invest in snowmaking, slope lighting, and energy-efficiency projects at Tahko Mountain. In the first phase, we upgraded the slope lighting in the Special and World Cup runs to energy-efficient LED fixtures. The transition to LED lighting across all slopes will continue in stages, with the aim of completing the project by 2026.
